About Us: Fields Corner Main Street (FCMS) is a local nonprofit organization with the mission of supporting the business district in the Fields Corner neighborhood of Dorchester. Centered around the bustling intersection of Dorchester Avenue and Adams Street, Fields Corner is the heart of Dorchester and is one of the largest urban neighborhood business districts in Boston.
Fields Corner is home to a diverse community of Vietnamese, African-American, Caribbean, Irish and Latino businesses and residents. The neighborhood is vibrant with shops and restaurants that reflect the fabric of Fields Corner.
FCMS is one of 20 Main Street Organizations in the City of Boston working to promote small businesses neighborhood districts. Our mission is to ensure that Fields Corner continues to be a thriving, welcoming, secure district with diverse businesses serving residents and attracting visitors.
Project Description: FCMS seeks a local photojournalist to document the experiences of small business owners impacted by COVID-19 in the Fields Corner neighborhood. The artist will work in collaboration with FCMS staff, board and community members to identify business owners and conduct interviews. The goal of the project is to elevate the profile of local small business owners, and share a compelling visual story with the wider community. We see this project as a platform for local business owners to be photographed safely and tell their stories in their own words, letting others in the neighborhood know what they can do to help the small business community survive the COVID-19 crisis. Stories will be translated into Spanish, Vietnamese, and Cape Verdean Creole and shared in a social media campaign and on the FCMS website.
Application Instructions: Artists should submit a letter of interest along with 5-10 images, a proposal including timeline and materials list, and two professional references to Jackey West Devine at firstname.lastname@example.org. Portfolio should include at least three portraits, and demonstrate an interest in urban settings. Artist will ideally have a connection to the neighborhood. Knowledge of another language common in Dorchester is desirable (e.g. Vietnamese, Spanish, or Cape Verdean Creole). Web design and social media experience preferred.
Compensation: Commensurate with experience. Range $2,000-5,000 for photojournalism. Additional compensation for web design & social media campaign. Please include hourly rate with application.
Deliverables: Images: FCMS will receive all raw image files and one edited uncompressed jpeg format for each photograph. FCMS retains the right to alter any final images to meet specific needs of size, resolution or crop ratio as required by specific applications and uses.
The selected vendor will not add or embed photos with branding captions or watermark signatures on image files provided to FCMS. The selected vendor will be allowed to use approved images captured for this project for their portfolio and will reference FCMS when promoting the project.
